Lagoon View is at once bold and understated. This holiday home off the R43 en route to Hermanus incorporates dramatic lagoon, sea and mountain views. The challenge was to create a space that would embrace everything offered visually while providing protection from the extreme wind and weather conditions. A thoughtful response was required to both the spirit of the place and the design code constraints of the site – one of the most visually sensitive parts of the estate. We achieved this through a deceptively simple design with absolute attention to detail and the use of different materials such as timber, concrete and steel. The result is a contemporary, understated African home that is both robust and inviting.
Property Sept/October 2011.
